Designer Spotlight: Love Story London

We sat down with the brand’s founder, Laura Shepherd, to get an exclusive look behind the collection: the inspiration, the woman she designs for, and what brides can expect when stepping into one of these unforgettable gowns.

1. Thank you Laura for your time and for allowing my brides to get to know Love Story London. So firstly, can you give us some of your back story, how was Love Story London born?

I studied fashion and textiles originally, so when I had the opportunity to open a bridal boutique in 2011 it was like a dream come true. I loved working alongside talented designers and showcasing their dresses to my brides. I found myself dreaming up my own creations so when the opportunity arose to design my own inhouse label it was the perfect opportunity to start Love Story London, test it with my own brides and fast forward to today, where I get to share the designs with a wonderful bunch of UK and international retailers.

2. How would you best describe LSL to a bride who hadn't discovered your label yet?

For the modern bride, timeless with a feminine twist. 

3. What are your favourite pieces from the Dream on Dreamer collection?

Gosh, that's hard, I think it's our strongest collection yet. Maybe Faye has my heart this season, it's slightly more fashion forward but with the chantilly lace topper this transforms it again, providing two looks in one. 

4. What trends do you love at the moment, and which do you think will be sticking around?

I'm here for the dipped waist-lines. I really think it flatters the female form. I am also loving the statement veils which for me are here to stay as they always elevate a bridal look. In previous collections that was always the Luz floral veil for us, this season our new lace edged Penelope veil is beyond gorgeous.

5. What is your favourite celebrity bridal look you've seen recently?

By far, Demi Lovato in Vivienne Westwood.

6. What is your favourite part of your job?

Seeing a sketch come to life. From the initial idea and sketch, to the moment the dress is on a real life bride.

7. What is your best piece of advice for brides who are just starting out on their dress shopping journey?

Do your research, pick your boutiques that resonate with your style and price point, enjoy the process and trust your instincts, it's your dress. 

8. And what would you advise those brides who are into their journey but struggling to find 'The One'?

Take a step back and reset, re-evaluate what you are looking for, steer clear from social media scrolling and adding confusion. Then start the process again, it may also be a good idea to visit a boutique on your own and spend time with a stylist really working out what you are looking for.
